Burot beach camping : Awesome beaches of Philippines

January 5, 2017

One of the most amazing things I like about the Philippines is how easily you can be with nature. It just needs a short ride by bus or banka, and you are in one of the hundreds of the isolated virgin islands. So when Deb and Allwyn planned for a camping trip to one of the beaches, our joy meant no bound. It was to be a fun filled family outing and Vidya  joined too  with Harish and kids.
After enough brainstorming and few considerations as we wanted a nice beautiful beach, accessible by car, nearby to Manila, good camping ground, availability of restroom facilities , and utmost kids and pet-friendly - Burot beach of  Batangas was an obvious choice.

Burot beach is in Calatagan, Batangas around 5 hours drive from Manila via car and might take around 7 hours or so if you take public transport. It is an organized beach with security at the gate and a small shop to buy items for survival in case you forgot to bring any. There are plenty of activities to do camping, swimming, snorkeling, island hopping, a short day picnic or just stay on the beach and see the beautiful sunset.

Our preparation started a day before where we bought all the necessary items for a campout - vegetables, rice, oil , spices, fruits, drinks etc. Since we were traveling by car we had the luxury of carrying as much items we could and Paru - Ria's awesome Golden retriever pet was going to have her first interaction with water. We were to stay in our tents as there is no accommodation in Burot beach.

If Camping is not your cup of tea, you can visit Burot beach as a day trip and stay in one of the resorts in calatagan.

Though we planned to leave early, yet it was only 9 am when we were able to start from Manila towards Batangas, being a weekend there was plenty of traffic. It was an enjoyable ride listening to Indian pop music and the adoring the scenic beauty along the way.Our first stop was for lunch at white castle resort. The beautiful resort amidst a fishermen village has a beautiful sea view and a very friendly staff. It is managed and owned by a Michelin star German Chef so the food was awesome and we found few vegetarian dishes too.We sauntered along the resort while the fresh delicious food was cooked for us.

After another hour of the drive we reached Burot beach. The Entry was through a small road across leading to the main beach area.Since its private property of SM ,which they are planning to make a resort, it is properly guarded. It was Halloween weekend and there were many campers already pitched before us.We chose a perfect place with shade of a tree, overlooking the beach to camp.Being a late riser, whenever we camp we always see that our tent is in a perfect place not to face the morning sun .

Since we managed to reach the site just before sunset the view was awesome and with Paru (Ria's Pet child ) excited to run around and sniff every other tent, life was beautiful. We sat there in peace enjoying the gentle sun setting across the wide ocean, the calm ocean ready to sing a lullaby for the sun to sleep.
The rest of our crew started to bring the tent and other items from the car to the campsite. After having the lit the campsite and setting up the three tents. we started the arranging the food items of the things we needed for grill / Dinner and keep safe the other items for the morning.

The next few hours went about friends chatting over tasty grilled vegetables, fish and chicken, the children running from one campsite to another. There was plenty of fun, discussions and music around. We all sat by the beach adoring the full moon as one by one everybody went back to their tents to wander in their dreams.

The next day morning we woke up early got some tea from the shop nearby and after having some omelet, fruits, bread and cookies for breakfast and went for a snorkeling and swimming around the beach. The water was shallow with a little bit of marine life. The Philippines water is relaxing and some of us just sat by the beach and enjoyed.

We decided to take the lunch on the road, so by 2 pm we packed up our tents and returned to the highway for our trip back home.

So you wanna camp
The basic necessity
1. Tent
2. Sleeping bag -> in tropical place like the Philippines simple blanket will do
3. a headlamp
4. a small camping stove to cook or warm food, utensils

5. Toiletries,medicines and toilet paper :D
6. Mosquito repellant
7. plenty of food and drinks to keep the stories rolling

One thing is to take care is to respect nature and take back the waste you created back for proper disposals .
